The Association of Austrian Waste Management Companies (VOEB) is the independent representation of interests of the Austrian commercial waste and resource management companies in Austria. The association was founded in 1982 and currently represents more than 250 member companies with activities in all forms of waste management. Thus, VOEB represents two thirds – measured in terms of sales and in terms of number of employees – of the private Austrian waste management companies. It is organized on voluntary basis and depicts the strongest economic entity in the waste management industry.
VOEB members directly employs over 27.000 and indirectly over 43.000 people and processes more than two-thirds of industrial and commercial waste generated in Austria in 1.100 high tech plants with a collective annual turnover of € 4 billion. The industry makes a significant contribution to environmental protection through investments, innovation and the latest technologies.
VOEB’s objective is to stand out in the public as a competent partner in all important issues for the waste management industry. The members take an active part in the detailed work needed. This work is divided into subject areas, which are rightly referred to as “the heart of VOEB”. Because of its engagement in the six subject areas VOEB keeps following its goal continuously. As a representative of the quality-aware waste management enterprises, the association brings with the support of is subject areas comprehensive know-how into the waste management discussions and furthermore develops concrete solutions – particularly in the legislation. In addition, the practice-oriented work of our experts as well as their professional competence is mostly valued by VOEB’s business partners.
Furthermore, the development of the branch from waste management to modern resource management business is a key objective as well as the definition of clearly environmental and waste political objectives, the reduction of too many regulations and administrative barriers and the avoidance of distortions of competition.
VOEB is also working very closely with the European lobby of waste management FEAD and BDE (Federal Association of the German Waste Management, Water and Raw Materials Industry).
VOEB is engaged in all areas of the waste management industry. Typical activities involve the collection, transportation, processing, recycling or trade with waste or packaging materials. The latter include dangerous wastes, residual waste, biogenous waste and different materials like paper, cardboard, glass and plastic.
